Q: Did you deal with your own father/son issues like Dr. Hansen and Michael?

A: If only. Perhaps I did inject an element of wishful thinking into their relationship, but there was always a communication barrier between me and my father. We never really talked at great depth, especially when the subject turned to religion. This is a great sadness to me, especially since my father has developed Alzheimer’s and I now feel as though I’ve missed my chance to reach him. On the flip side, generation-wise, my children are all girls.
