A: When the Dead Sea Scrolls were first discovered, the first cave yielded seven intact scrolls. Over time, ten more caves were discovered, and fragments of over 900 scrolls were found. However, the original find was seven scrolls. My novel, The Eighth Scroll, deals with the premise that a priest who was a member of the Dead Sea Scrolls team discovered an eighth scroll in addition to the original seven, but hid it away because it contradicted the beliefs he had been raised to hold sacred. Only later does he realize there might be truth to the scroll’s ‘heresy,’ but by then he is trapped in his own deception.
